Something a little different

romanburger3One of my favorite things to photograph, ever since I first got my DSLR, has been food. On a consistent, day to day basis, I probably take more photos of food items than I photograph anything else. So I thought I’d share a recent food photo, and a recipe to go along with it!

Last week, I tried a “Roman” Burger from Acme Burgerhaus in San Francisco. The flavors were unlike anything I’ve ever had in a burger. It was so good, I tried my hand at replicating the burger and I think they came out great! The trick really is to use fresh ground beef, instead of frozen or pre-packaged ground beef. The fresher the better.

The Roman Burger (Recipe for 2)
Half pound of freshly ground beef
    1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    2 minced garlic cloves
2 tbsp of chopped sun dried tomatoes
    2 tbsp chopped onion
    1 tbsp of oregano
Dash of salt and freshly ground black pepper

Mix everything together and then form into patties. Cook on a grill (I used a cast iron grill on the stove top) for about 3 minutes on each side, top with cheddar cheese, arugula, and some grilled red onions, maybe a little mayo or ketchup and you’re all set!

Trust me, this burger is DELICIOUS. Not sure if I’ll ever go back to cooking regular burgers after having made this one. Enjoy!

Kimberley & Brian // Half Moon Bay Wedding

Kimberley & Brian are one of the most FUN couples I’ve ever photographed. They’re just incredibly vibrant people. So happy to have been a part of their big day. I love all the personalized touches they had, from Kimberley’s fabulous green shoes, to the broccoli in Brian’s boutonniere (he loooves broccoli!) to the pez dispensers on their wedding cake. Everything about the wedding was entirely touched by Kimberley & Brian’s personalities.

Sherri & Patrick Engagement Session // Part II

I promised more from Sherri and Patrick’s e-session, and here they are! We grabbed brunch together at Park Chow, right next to Golden Gate Park, and after a scrumptuous meal, we headed over to the park. But not before I became smitten with a bright yellow door. Love doors, love yellow!

We made our way to the Japanese Tea Garden since it’s a place Sherri mentioned she’s always wanted to visit. It was a beautiful sunny, and surprisingly fog-free day in San Francisco and the Tea Garden was such a nice contrast to the urban feel of the other locations we shot at.

And there were even more doorways here to play with!

We all ended up in the gift store, oohing and ahhing over all the cute stuff. They had forksticks there! A combination of chopsticks and forks. Genius.

Sherri and Patrick shared their wedding plans over brunch and I’m convinced that this is going to be an epic wedding. They’ve hired an amazing Orange County photographer, Sarah Chen, they’ve got a gorgeous venue, and it’s going to be a ceremony overlooking the ocean! Congrats you two! Next time, brunch is on me.:)

Sherri & Patrick // Engagement Session // Part I

I really feel like there’s nothing that can make your heart feel like its doubled in size as hanging out with old friends. It’s such a rush of happiness and sweet nostalgia. Sherri and I met our freshman year in High School and immediately became friends. I can’t tell you how many hours we spent talking as we wandered in circles around and around the school courtyard during PE. That was our choice of exercise. Not handball, not basketball, walking. In circles. Over and over again. :p Good times!

It’s so strange to me how far we’ve all come, mostly because it’s hard to grasp how much time has gone by! High School really doesn’t seem that long ago. But here we are all grown up. Sherri is the first one within my immediate group of friends in High School to be getting married! Ahhh! It’s exciting and I’m sooo happy for her!

Sherri & Patrick are big fans of San Francisco, so they came up from Irvine for the weekend so that we could do a shoot here. I wanted to showcase a lot of the funky vibrancy of San Francisco as well as all the natural beauty that’s so unique to SF. We started off with some super interesting backdrops. Vertical gardens, hanging chairs, and flora climbing out of an old school car, can it get any better?

We headed up to the Marin Headlands to get some shots overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and lemme tell ya, it took a LOT of effort to get here but it was so worth it in the end!

I’m such a huge fan of doorways and frames. The contrast between my sexy couple and this old broken down shell of a building is so great.

Can you say, DRAMATIC? I’m so glad we braved the crazy winds because we ended up getting killer shots like this one. So many favorites from the shoot, but this one just might be #1.:)

It’s so great getting to photograph dear friends. And an added bonus when those friends are naturals and just light up in front of the camera. More of Sherri & Patrick’s engagement shoot to come! Next up, Golden Gate Park.
